Sneakerhead in Focus: Ergün Kalayci

ThatShoeGuy’s first ever Sneakerhead feature showcases German Collector and Sneakerhead Ergün “dogo” Kalayci’s stunning collection. We chit chat with him and find out his favorite sneakers and what he thinks about limited releases.

About

Hi guys, my Name is Ergün but my friends call me “dogo.” I’m 39 years old and hail from Stuttgart, Germany.
My hobbies include collecting sneakers from all over the world, listening to Elvis Presley, Old-school Hip-Hop and supporting my favorite football team – Galatasaray Istanbul.

How did you get into collecting sneakers?

Sneakers were a part of my childhood. I don’t know why but I always had an affection for sneakers, they mesmerized me. My first sneaker, that I bought with my own money was the Puma Suede. At this time I often danced in the youth club and break dance was hip. So the whole break dance scene in Stuttgart wore Pumas (Clyde, Suede) or Adidas (Gazelle, Superstar). Maybe that’s the reason why I’m addicted to pumas.

How deep is your collection?

I don’t know the exact number of shoes in my collection but I stopped counting at 100 Pairs. I love sneakers *laughs*

What do you think about more and more brands going for limited edition releases?

My opinion is that the quality and the message of the sneakers must be given. The problem is that the brands release some new sneakers every single week (general release) and also limited sneakers. That’s too many releases for normal customers.

Not everybody can pay up to €200 – €500  per week for some limited sneakers and that’s the reason why some of these releases are underrated. On the other hand, some releases are overrated like the yeezy. It’s not about collecting sneakers anymore. Instead, due to the brands doing these limited edition releases, the people use them as an investment now and I think this should not be the purpose behind collecting limited edition sneakers.

What are your Top 5 Sneakers from your collection?

Sneaker Freaker x Puma Blaze Of Glory “Bloodbath”

Air Jordan Laser 4

Nike Air Max Lunar 90 SP “Moon Landing”

Solebox x Reebok Instapump Fury OG 20th Anniversary

Air Jordan 4 Premium (Pony Hair)

Elusive Sole?

If there is one Sneaker that I’ve been trying to get but just can’t find, it would be the Sneaker Freaker x Puma “Shark Bait” Friends & Family

Final Words

Thanks for the feature you guys! Have fun and love your hobby. Greetings to everyone out there and much love

Dogo✌
